Next Supreme Court Nomination: We're Watching....

While Roberts prepares to be sworn in, President Bush's next SCOTUS nomination is already boning up to be an interesting event. However, his decision will determine much more than a potential replacement for O'Connor. Huge numbers of the active conservative base will be watching very closely. If he selects Edith Jones or Janice Rogers Brown, he'll win back support from conservatives who are disappointed with his poor immigration performance and penchant for out of control spending. If he chooses an unacceptable candidate, like his buddy Alberto Gonzales, it will signal the beginning of the end of conservative support for the GOP and perhaps lead to big losses in '06. NOTE TO GOP: don't say you weren't warned.


Bush's choice of Harriet Miers to replace SDO absolutely sucks. In fact, it's just about as bad a choice as this.
